Unite for Hunger and Hope, April 29

My most recent article on HubPages is called Unite for Hunger and Hope, April 29. In it I talked about the event being promoted by Blog Catalog and Heifer International. I also talked about two of my favorite websites that specifically exist to raise food for the hungry, The Hunger Site and Free Rice.

One of my favorite games on Free Rice is the vocabulary game. You are given a word and 4 definitions, you choose one answer and donate 10 grains of rice for every correct answer. It has 60 levels; the highest one I have managed to reach so far is 42.

I try to visit The Hunger Site and Free Rice daily. It's a little thing but it is a way to help the hungry when you don't have the money or resources to support them any other way.

There are many reasons why hunger is such a problem in the world (it is estimated that 1 billion people suffer from various levels of hunger). Some reasons are political, some are social, some are economic, and some are environmental. And hunger is not restricted to third-world countries; many in the US and Canada do not know where their next meal will come from. Regardless of the reason, most people who suffer from hunger do so through no fault of their own. It is up to those of us who are more prosperous to help them, or at least to try and help them. It is our duty as human beings.

Thank you for this article. I've copied a quote from it to use in an upcoming wrap-up article.
