World Press Freedom Day

One of the most fundamental freedoms is the freedom of the press; without it, none of us are free. We may not always agree with what the members of the press say and sometimes they do get carried away with the mundane and the negative, but I am sure most of us believe in their having the right to say it. Journalists in North America are very fortunate, they don't usually risk their lives to report the facts as journalists in many other countries often do. It is up to all of us to ensure that freedom of the press is supported and respected world wide.

From the Bloggers Unite website:

"The United Nations General Assembly declared 3 May to be World Press Freedom Day[1][2] to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and marking the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek, a statement of free press principles put together by African newspaper journalists in 1991."
